Where is $700bil going and how we got here.

image The Bush administration asked US Lawmakers to allow the Secretary of the Treasury the power to buy up to $700 Billion in failed assets from banks and business in the US to hopefully east the current economic crisis we face today. Not since the great Depression has this country seen such its economy in such turmoil. Today in Washington is hoping to have a plan laid out by the Monday. "It would be my hope, that this could be resolved today, that we had a day for the American people and members of Congress to review the legislation on the Internet that we could bring something to the floor possibly Sunday night or Monday morning," Pelosi said in an interview earlier today.

Obama vs. McCain - a look back at the debate.

Tonight we finally got to take a look at the two candidates for the upcoming imagePresidential election in a face off. When the night started with a 700 billion dollar question I was not surprised when Senator John McCain went after Senator Barack Obama’s more than 930 million dollars in earmark spending and Obama attacked, on several occasions McCain’s but for the most part I’m happy with both their answers in part. Obama did seem to have a better time handling some of the economic questions however. At one point the moderator kept pushing the question about how the current economic issues would change their spending. Both candidates answered his question, but wouldn’t nail down a specific answer, which I think was (as I look back) the right decision. we heard Obama say he’d still push for energy reform but maybe need to pull parts back and McCain made comments about a spending freeze as a possible consideration. They both also gave other examples, but for some reason it wasn’t good enough.

Clinton loves McCain and the Oxford Debate

image Bill and Hillary support John McCain, even if they won’t admit it. Hillary Clinton has already begun swinging for 2012, and if I were her I would too. In recent interviews Bill Clinton has praised Sarah Palin and the help she has already and will to continue to bring to the McCain camp. Having made statements like; "She handled herself very well. I get why she’s done so well.” And, “…it’s a mistake to underestimate her. She’s got good intuitive skills. They’re significant." By now you’ve all heard rumors I imagine that Joe Biden will drop out of the race after his first debate with Palin and that Senator Hillary Clinton will take his place. I doubt seriously this will happen.

I can see Russia from here

Vice Presidential Candidate and Governor Sarah Palin is again defending her statements about foreign policy. Palin believes that being as close to Russia as she is will help bolster her foreign policy. Now while I admit Obama doesn’t have any real experience in this arena wither how does proximity play into account? Wouldn’t this be like me saying I know how to play pool because I like next to a bar?

In her most recent interview with the oh so hard hitting CBS News Anchor Katie Couric, Palin said Alaska’s narrow maritime border with "next door neighbors" Canada and Russia is enough. "They’re in the state that I am the executive of." She also said that Russia has swapped trade missions with her state and that its important to consider matters of national security with Russia, in reference to US airspace over Alaska.

Proposition 8

image Ellen Degeneres has called out prop8 in California. In a recent blog entry she asked anyone in California to vote "NO" to prop8. If you aren’t familiar with the article in question it is a vote to define marriage in the state of California. The idea behind the proposition is to nullify same-sex marriages. Personally I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Ellen at the California Supreme Court before the whole process is over. If you  feel strongly about this issue and live in California then you need to vote, either for or against.

This issue is bigger than Ellen or California. Same-sex marriage is an issue this country will have to deal with on a national scale. I think in time we will see a constitutional amendment for same-sex marriage. If I lived there I’d vote with Ellen, in the meantime I thought you might want to see the proposed amendment.

McCain, Obama and a money rant

image Presidential Candidate and US Senator John McCain suspended his campaign on Wednesday to return to Washington to work with Congress regarding America’s economy. In a press conference McCain said he spoke with Senator Obama about his decision and suggested they postpone the debate scheduled for Friday. Obama in reply said "Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. Uh. Its not necessary for us to think that, uh we can only do one thing, uh and suspend everything else." I do find it humorous I must admit, considering he really hasn’t done anything in the 18 minutes he’s been a US Senator with the exception of prepare himself to run for the highest office.

Joe Biden talks about the Depression

image Joe Biden’s interview with CBS News Anchor Katie Couric the other night was a bit over shadowed by his own ignorance. In the interview he stated, "When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed…" The problem is that in 1929 no one owned a television and the President of the United States was Hoover not FDR. Roosevelt was elected to the Presidency in 1932 shortly after the depression and began his term in 1933.

California Constipation

The recent California State Budget debacle has shed new light on those not usually affected by a budget impasse. This could lead to reform of an antiquated process and the upseating of long term politicians only looking out for their best interest instead of their constituents.
