Presidential Candidate and US Senator John McCain suspended his campaign on Wednesday to return to Washington to work with Congress regarding America’s economy. In a press conference McCain said he spoke with Senator Obama about his decision and suggested they postpone the debate scheduled for Friday. Obama in reply said "Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. Uh. Its not necessary for us to think that, uh we can only do one thing, uh and suspend everything else." I do find it humorous I must admit, considering he really hasn’t done anything in the 18 minutes he’s been a US Senator with the exception of prepare himself to run for the highest office.
Senator Barack Obama should realize that (and I find my blood curdling when I say this) that McCain is doing the right thing here. I’ll admit he may or may not be doing it for the right reason, but as Senators isn’t this exact set of problems what we pay (with tax money) our Representatives in Washington to deal with. Someone can go ahead and add this to the reasons he will lose this election. Can you say Clinton 2012? But I’m getting ahead of myself. That is a horse of another story.
McCain also stated in his press conference that he hoped Republicans and Democrats would unite during this crisis. Saying, "Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country."
This really brings me to the simple question that irked me to the bone before Obama did, ands that’s the whole reason we are having this conversation. We’re broke, and I for one blame the 60’s. No I don’t mean hippies and marijuana, I mean the advent of the credit card. I know if I go long enough without paying my bills someone will eventually hall me off to jail, yet over and over we are bailing out companies that have billions (if not trillions in assets) without flinching really. Now before you get all in a fit about this I didn’t think it through.
I’m well aware that when the market does crash (and it isn’t a question of if, but when at this point) we will have tens of thousands, if not more Americans out of work which would make it worse. I really do understand the mechanics of the problem. I just don’t think anyone else does. Our entire economy is on credit, personally, professionally and as a nation our credit rating is plummeting. And yes something needs to be done about it. I personally think we need to let the system crash. And trust me people I’m in it as deep or deeper than a lot of you, but I still think its time we, and by we I mean citizens and corporations take it now because the longer we prolong it the worse the inevitable crash will be.
And yes we have been avoiding this crash for so long now. Do you remember the "dotcom" boom and crash, oh wait I’m sorry "correction?" While the NASDAQ hasn’t quite made the rebound from that set of numbers as a whole the market (until very recently) was moving up really fast. You do realize that bubble popped about 6 years ago. That isn’t enough time, and we were heading down the wrong road long before then. And every time a friend of mine who had no business buying a house got 100% financing on a house that was too much money I knew we were headed down a dangerous path.
So here we are, all knee deep in that which seemingly hits the fan and we want someone to fix it. While I applaud Senator McCain for going to Washington to put some semblance of an effort forth I know it doesn’t matter. The system doesn’t just need fixed, it needs to be broken so we may rebuild it, another bandage will do know one any favors, except for politicians, lobbyists and those who finance them. Am I crazy?

Rev, if Obama was a Senator in there for 30+ years like Ted Kennedy, he would be labeled a “career” politician and a Washington Insider controlled by special interest groups by the right. Personally, I welcome the idea of someone new to the political stage. Apparently, there is a large amount of americans feeling this way, as Palin has been introduced and has 0 minutes on her political phone card in regards to Washington.
I would much rather see Biden in office in the chance of Obama getting assassinated (which is not a stretch). Think if Palin was in office if Mccain has a turn with his advance years (which is not a stretch). God help us….
